Last weekend, we headed to NYC for the Brooklyn Book Festival Children’s Day. It’s a glorious annual celebration of children’s literature with author readings, activities, and a fabulous marketplace full of books for children of every age. If you’ve never been and you have a child in your life—whether it’s your own, a sibling, cousin, niece or nephew, or a friend’s child— you must mark your calendar for October 2023! In fact, if you just love children’s books—and what’s not to love?—then this event is for you.
Children’s Day is outdoors and so, naturally, it’s dependent upon good weather! In years past, cool Fall temperatures have blessed the event. Well, you know the old saying, “when it rains it pours?” That’s exactly what happened. It rained, it poured, the wind blew, and then blew some more, then another downpour! Until eventually, the clouds ran out of rain!
Regardless, it was an inspiring day. Some of our Main Stage author favorites of the day included readings of David Barclay Moore’s breathtaking Carrimebec, Raakhee Mirchandani’s beautiful My Diwali Light, and the joyful Boogie Boogie, Y’all by Charles G. Esperanza. We were also thrilled to reunite with our friends, Seema and Rebecca of the Brooklyn Book Bodega whose mission is to bring books to children of every age and circumstance across NYC.
We were honored to welcome so many children and parents to our booth. We had many wonderful conversations and sold our hot-off-the-press Hello, My Name is Bunny! Paris books, as well as NYC and London editions. If you stopped by to say hi or bought our books, thank you! We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed creating them!
And so now, we’re working hard to prepare the books for launch online! Everything has to be simply purrfect, so we’re taking our time! We look forward to sharing more about the launch date with you VERY soon.
